It was Thanksgiving day back in 2002. I was only 23 years old and my life forever changed on that day. I had a placental abruption and Brendan was born at 33 weeks. He lost oxygen during delivery due to incompetent care but was a fighter and turned 17 this year. My journey in life over the past 17 years took many turns I was not expecting but I try to stay strong and have my husband by my side even when I am not.

My son is spoiled but I want him to enjoy life
We got the kids a blow up water slide. It is pretty awesome. Brendan doesn't usually like 'toys'. He never says he wants anything. He never has a favorite toy that he just has to have so when he does like something I get it. Everytime we showed him a water slide in the store he lit up and asked us to buy it. So we did. I looked at a ton of them and found a great one at BJ's. It has a smaller slide which is great for Makay and Brendan when we don't have th energy to lift him onto the bigger slide. The sides are nice and high so he can't fall off while zooming down all on his own.
On the way home from therapy last night (which he did awesome at) I told him that Derek had set it up and he can try it when he gets home. He told me no he didn't want to go on it, he wanted to watch cars on Youtube. Well as soon as he saw it outside he said "mom can you get me changed?" He wanted in and he LOVED it. We just need some warmer weather so we can actually use it
i am glad that brendan is able to enjoy the water slide. I want you to know that just because you get brendan what he wants if he asks for it he is not spoiled. There are so many things that those of us who have Cp can not do that our parents need to faciltate and get us to dow aht they know we can do I was spoikled too and i dont act it today lol hope he continues to enjoy his water slide I love the water as long as its not too cold it is so relaxing for me
ReplyDeleteOh wow. I have been thinking about trying to get Emma one of these. I think she can do it this year. I like that it has those high sides on the shorter slide. I like that it inflatable, so she is less likely to crack her head if she falls over, etc.
ReplyDeleteEmma is an only child and she is SPOILED too! I agree with you. I want her to enjoy life, in spite of her challenges. Unfortunately, it can cost us big $$$ sometimes. These kids are worth it, especially when they do awesome in PT and such.
Just saw it! I love the trike riding video! Awesome! Go Brendan!
ReplyDeleteWow i didnt notice the video earlier either he did awsome and had quite the cheering team going lol you guys are doing great. I miss riding bike now that i am older I dont have the balance i sued to do a regular bike I am thinking on getting a stationary recumbant bike as they are cheaper usually than the ridable ones he is doing awsome after his PERCS I think you definately did the right thing for him on that I have noticed so much improvement just in his pictures hi is so straight now
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! Our kids have to do so much work that typical kids don't and they can't enjoy some of the simpler things like other kids can so they deserve to be spoiled! We bought Malayna a bounce house for the same reason, she deserves something special that she can really enjoy! The slide looks like so much fun! Malayna would probably love that too! I'm glad Brendan likes it, he sure deserves it!! I love the trike video! That is incredible!!!
ReplyDeleteI've got to say I'm not a big fan of slides myself. Sounds like Brendan had fun though!
